    Telling Architectural

    1 Dec 2004

Telling Architectural collaborate with the cladding systems division of Taylor Maxwell in the supply of a versatile terracotta rainscreen claddings for application in traditional and specialist forms of construction. We offer unequalled national sales and technical services along with particular expertise via our in-house design staff to lessen the load upon the consultant or design contractor in interfacing and programming responsibilities .
Our Terracotta Rainscreens are manufactured under the ‘ArGeTon’ process created by the German Clay Tile Manufacturers Association to expand the use of their technology in construction. Further innovative developments by F.V. Mueller, a family owned company established in 1875 and one of the three largest clay tile producers in Germany, led to the launch of the ArGeTon System.
We seek to provide to the specifier a complete technical service including structural calculations design advice and budget costs.
Application of the system is undertaken by trained and approved contractors who have the financial and technical resource. These will include established companies in the curtain walling industry.
The manufacture of the tiles takes place in a purpose made production facility at Goerlitz in the east of Germany where the excellent quality of clay combined with the unique firing process, creates a product of superior impact resistance and lower porosity than traditional clay products. Laboratory testing and extensive quality control procedures ensure the consistency of production in accordance with DIN 456.
The origin of the product satisfies the desire for natural materials in construction whether for new construction or refurbishment.
    The ArGeTon Rainscreen
    Technical
ArGeTon Rainscreens are an innovative concept for the use of terracotta tiles in a rainscreen. The system utilises the proven principle of the ventilated cavity, promoting a condensation free and thermally efficient cladding whose components are suited to modern architecture.
The natural beauty and symmetry of the ArGeTon format lies in the precise and clean lines achieved without overlapping, the traditional method of protecting a tile façade against water ingress. The profile of the tile minimises water penetration and is tested to CWCT Standards at the UKAS approved Taywood Laboratories in the UK.
The strong contrast of the joint and the smooth tile enhance the aesthetic appeal of the rainscreen. The walling is commonly created in a modular format with powder coated aluminium sections used as features at corners, windows and storey heights. These can facilitate fire stopping measures where regulations so require.
ArGeTon rainscreens interface easily with alternative forms of curtain walling, glazing metal cladding and stucco systems to provide flexibility of design in the creation of an individual style.
    Composition
The ArGeTon Rainscreen is constructed to comply with DIN 18516 Part 1 relating to ventilated non load bearing structural cladding systems. Natural clay tiles are available to a standard grid of up to 500mm in length and 250mm in height. Optional height tiles are available to suit grids The length of the tiles is variable and where necessary can be easily adjusted on site with a diamond tipped wet cut saw.
Tiles are 30mm in thickness and dual skin throughout their length to provide a maximum system weight of 50 kgs/m2
Aluminum substructures are designed in accordance with the British Standards applicable to rainscreen facades.
