IAC's acoustic doors shield London Symphony Orchestra from traffic noise | 31 Mar 2005 |
Audiences can hear every note that the London Symphony Orchestra plays without interference from neighbouring traffic thanks to the 14 acoustic doorsets that IAC of Winchester has installed in their new facility.
The award-winning LSO St Lukes, as the building is now known, is a converted 18th century, grade 1-listed building in a busy part of London. Now home to one of the worlds best-loved orchestras, the traffic noise presented a particular challenge as did noise transference from corridors to the practice rooms.
Scott Simmons is Product Manager, Doors at IAC: "For over 50 years, weve been one of the worlds leading authorities on acoustic doors. I suppose its the performance-tested aspect that appeals to specifiers because they know the doors will really do the job. The self-aligning magnetic seals also have the edge and they certainly give superior closure. When it comes to performance spaces, our doors non-slam action certainly makes a difference as well."
The acoustic doors in the building all have either resistant polyester-powder-coat finish or an attractive timber veneer that harmonises with the rest of the stunning interior. The personnel access doors situated in the magnificent Jerwood Hall provide a high level of sound attenuation. In addition, the non-trip, flush thresholds promote easy access to the building both by able-bodied people and people using wheelchairs. Once inside audiences can listen to the orchestra undisturbed by the sounds of the city.
