Design and Build at Skills Centre | 16 Feb 2006 |
Harrow Skills Centre has unveiled a dramtic courtyard feature. The specially designed 20m x 7m tensile fabric structure, is the finishing touch to the redevelopment of a business unit into a multi-purpose training centre teaching construction skills.
The Wilson Partnership proposed a canopy design to provide all-weather protection over the outdoor teaching area. Fabric Architecture developed the concept using connection points fixed to the existing building, and steel masts anchored to conrete foundations. Additional fabric panels were inserted to create a weather seal over doorways.
Funded by Harrow Council and the London West Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Harrow Skills Centre opened its doors in September offering practical training to 14 to 19 year olds in a range of subjects including construction, electronics, bricklaying, manufacturing and design and prototyping in engineering.
