Hepworth Responds To Fire Training Challenge |
The new training centre, based near Cardiff, provides a wide range of facilities for training in firefighting and rescue techniques.
Hepworth Building Products has supplied its GEOlight modular storage system to effectively manage the large volumes of water that will be pumped through, and discharged, at the new Cardiff Gate Training & Development Centre.
GEOlight is an ultra lightweight honeycombed modular structure which provides underground storage for the control of surface water. The water that is used during fire fighting training exercises will be drained from the facility's hard landscaped areas into an attenuation tank formed from 350 GEOlight modules. The stored water will then be released at a controlled rate into the local sewage system.
GEOlight units have high compressive strength allowing installation beneath roads, car parks and amenity areas.
James Sinclair, Commercial Director of Dancourt Limited, the project's groundwork contractor said: The lightweight structure of the GEOlight units allowed us to complete installation quickly and easily. Waste water control and underground storage are obviously key elements in this project and the reservoir formed from Hepworth's GEOlight product means that up to 332,000 litres of water can be handled efficiently without overloading the drainage system, allowing the trainees to practice a wide variety of scenarios which are realistically simulated on site.
