School's out and looking up! | 22 Jan 2007 |
A stunning transformation has taken place in the courtyard areas of St Thomas Moore RC High School. In collaboration with local architects, Wood Goldstraw & Yorath, a quadruple conic walkway leads to an 18m diameter canopy, covering a teaching and performance space.
Each doorway into the courtyard has a propriatry Broxap shelter which leads students under the conic walkway, allowing covered access between school buildings. Fabric Architecture's structures were paint matched with the entrance structures, which also act as water run-off locations for the walkway canopy.
The addition of Euroflood luminaires with neon blue filters creates a welcoming glow both above and below the structures, extending the use of the space for after school activities and performances.
