New Pre-Laid Boundary Wall Offers Massive Time And Cost Savings

    16 Feb 2007

Designed to dramatically cut the time and cost of building a traditional brick wall, the Betabric Pre-laid Boundary Wall, a new product from Ipswich-based Poundfield Products Ltd, created huge interest among civil engineers, main contractors and developers when it was previewed at the Civils exhibition in November last year.

Capable of delivering overall installed cost-savings of up to 50%, the Betabric Pre-laid Boundary Wall uses real bricks moulded into 6-metre long panels, each containing 880 bricks, that can be put into place almost irrespective of prevailing weather conditions. Measured against conventional building methods, the company expects to achieve average on-site time-savings of 75%.

The secret of the new product lies in the structural vertical and horizontal reinforcing that allows a panel 2.4 metres high to be built from a single course of bricks, cutting the cost of materials in half. The absence of the need for either skilled bricklayers or additional supporting piers produces further significant savings.

Moreover, installation requires no continuous foundation: concrete positioning trays with integral rebars are simply placed at 6 metre intervals in a pre-dug trench 750 mm deep and 500 mm wide. The Betabric panel is lowered onto the trays in a single lift, positioned between the rebars and propped. Concrete is then poured into the trench and a proprietary sealant is used to fill the joints between the panels.

Any type of standard-size brick can be used, enabling a Betabric wall to blend cleanly into any type of development. Because each panel is manufactured in a controlled factory environment, consistent quality can be guaranteed. Smaller size panels are available on request.

Poundfield Products also manufacture the Betabric Pre-laid Retaining Wall; of a similar construction to the Boundary Wall, this product again utilises real bricks but casts them into a solid concrete panel capable of retaining soil up to its full height of 1.8 metres.
