Tredsafe - the new Dural concept for safe stair-edging profiles

    26 Feb 2007

According to statistics, improvements to the anti-slip properties of floors and especially stairs are urgently needed. Every fifth accident at work reported to trade unions is the result of someone tripping up, slipping or falling over. There are more than 220,000 such accidents reported every year, or 600 a day. The consequences can often be much more serious than is commonly assumed. Annually, around 5,600 of these cases are so severe that the victims have to be pensioned off after their treatment because of permanent disability.

Tredsafe profiles are especially tough stair-edging profiles that are ideal for use where anti-slip properties are most essential and where utmost resistance to stress and wear is needed. That means that the profiles are not solely for indoor use, but can also be used outdoors since they are also highly resistant to fading in sunlight. The unique feature of these profiles is a diamond-textured safety insert that goes by the name of Diamondtred. This provides excellent protection against slipping in wet or dry conditions, and thus offers even more safety than standards specify. Diamondtred is made of a special mixture of PVC, silicon dioxide quartz and polymeric plastics.

Tredsafe is ideally suited for use in public places, such as airports, swimming pools, cinemas or for steps on public transport vehicles like buses. However, the profiles are equally effective in private homes. Installation is simple: the insert has a self-adhesive backing and is simply laid into the recessed grooves of the metal profile itself. Profiles are pre-drilled and can be secured with countersunk screws.

Dural Tredsafe profiles not only protect the edges of stairs but also add to their visual attractiveness. Profiles are available in various designs, suitable for any application. There are Tredsafe profiles in polished brass finish, various colours of PVC or in anodised aluminium. The Diamondtred inserts are available in a wide range of bright colours or more subtle shades. The new range features profiles in lengths of 250 cm with a variety of other dimensions. Inserts come in widths of 13 mm, 25 mm, 37 mm, 43 mm or 53 mm.
