Stokvis biomass boiler saves energy, money... and the planet!

    29 May 2007

Interest in biomass fuelled heating systems has grown significantly over the last year as recognition has spread that biomass is a sustainable fuel that can significantly reduce carbon emissions, especially compared with fossil fuels. But biomass fuel's benefits don't stop there. The Biomass Energy Centre identifies several more:
    • Biomass can be sourced locally, from within the UK , indefinitely, contributing to security of supply.
    • UK sourced biomass can offer local business opportunities and support the rural economy.
    • Many biomass fuels generate lower levels of atmospheric pollutants such as sulphur dioxide that contributes to 'acid rain'.
    • Modern biomass combustion systems are highly sophisticated, offering combustion efficiency and emission levels comparable with fossil fuel boilers.
The last point is particularly true of the latest Talbott 'C' Series biomass boiler systems available from Stokvis Energy Systems.

As well as being one of the most efficient biomass boiler systems available, this robustly built system, comprising four models, can cleanly burn higher moisture content wood fuels with no loss of efficiency or heat output.

The Biomass 'C' series – available in outputs from 50 to 300kW (although larger outputs up to 1,000kW can be supplied to special order) – can provide all the heat requirements for applications such as large farmhouses, hotels, country estates and commercial properties.

The engineering efficiency of the Talbott 'C' Series guarantees one of the cleanest burning combustion system on the market. The controlled 'burn' at steady, very high temperatures that are achieved by the biomass 'C' series results in virtually no emissions to atmosphere and an efficiency rating by a government approved independent testing body of better than 80 per cent.

It also has the added benefit of being easy to operate and extremely low maintenance, and installers can also be reassured that support is always available with Talbott's technical staff and qualified service engineers on call to assist and advise on the installation and operation of the system.

The sophisticated control panel is user-friendly and has inverter controls to all motors to allow full modulation.

Other features and benefits of the Talbott 'C' Series include:
    • An automatically cranked heating tube cleaning system which ensures even burn throughout the fire chamber to boost efficiency.
    • A system to guarantee that the installation is fed with the right amount of fuel to maintain the required heat output, to meet high and low points of heat demand and facilitate automatic 'turndown' to as little as 25 per cent capacity.
    • A vertical system of heat exchangers instead of the more traditional horizontal exchangers, which allows a continual self-cleaning system to work and thereby ensure the installation works consistently at maximum efficiency.
    • Minimum heat loss via the flue stack and no residue build up.
    • A more even and consistent 'burn rate' to maintain maximum efficiency.
    • Higher temperatures that eliminate potentially noxious emissions to the atmosphere.
    • Easy to understand and operate controls. The system can be programmed to switch itself on at given times, dates and temperatures.
    • An additional device to ensure fuel is burned in optimum conditions to give maximum efficiency and heat output.
    • All four Biomass C1 to C4 units, which are CE marked and qualify under the Climate Change Levy Exemption, are approved appliances under the Clean Air
    • Act for use within smoke control areas.
