Hodgson & Hodgson Contributes to Sympathetic Refurbishment of Crewkerne's Old Brewery | 24 Jul 2007 |
Hodgson & Hodgson's Reduc acoustic flooring has been used to ensure high quality sound insulation in the recently-completed redevelopment of the Old Brewery in Crewkerne, Somerset. Builders ROK, together with Mat Gee of Yeovil-based Boon Brown Architects, insisted on the tried and tested Reduc products for the project, rejecting alternative products offering inferior acoustic performance.
The Old Brewery site dates from late Victorian times and was also used for cheese-making before its commercial use ended in 2000. Developers Hydon planned the project as a mixed social and private housing scheme, with some of the more modern structures being removed to build new housing and the remaining buildings converted into luxury apartments. Architects Boon Brown worked hard to enhance the original features of the buildings, whilst providing a thoroughly 21st Century environment for the people who would choose to make it their home.
Both Reduc Strata Extra and Reduc Foundation 35 acoustic flooring were used to overlay existing floors in the brewery development: Strata Extra was used in areas where the finished flooring was to be carpeted and Foundation 35 where ceramic tiles were to be laid. Reduc Strata Extra is a 35mm thick, high-performance acoustic overlay product, suitable for use on new and existing timber and concrete floors. It is used extensively to upgrade separating floors in buildings undergoing refurbishment or conversion.
Reduc Foundation 35 is used in all manner of new build projects where there is a need for a high-performance structural or overlay acoustic flooring product. It has a moisture-resistant upper surface and can be used throughout a building, including kitchens and bathrooms.
Both Strata Extra and Foundation 35 are designed to damp vibration and attenuate airborne sound and impact noise passing through floors. When used as an overlay on existing floors, the acoustic felt on the underside of the Reduc products will contour over minor irregularities on the surface of the floor.
"The Old Brewery is a very sympathetic redevelopment and we're pleased to have been involved in it," comments Graham Wadey of Hodgson & Hodgson. "With such an historic exterior to the building, it was important that the interior was also of a high quality. The excellent sound insulation that Reduc flooring provides will help to ensure a high standard of living for all new residents at the Old Brewery."
Hodgson & Hodgson's experience over many years has resulted in products that exceed building regulation requirements, giving architects and builders alike the confidence to specify H & H for all kinds of demanding projects. The company provides high quality thermal and acoustic consultancy to a wide range of clients and offers a total design, manufacture and installation service throughout the UK.
