With an estimated 60 million passengers expected in the next two years, Docklands Light Railway's commitment to maintaining exceptionally high standards has included a recent service station re-fit. DLR's existing maintenance platform was constructed in metal, which although strong, lacked the anti-corrosive and antislip properties required to exceed their exemplary safety conditions.
As a low maintenance and cost effective alternative, DLR selected a Fibreglass Grating platform system, a product that has consistently reduced accidents in all types of industries.
The proven gritted anti-slip surface has one of the highest degrees of slip resistance ever measured for a walking surface, especially in wet, oily or frosty work areas. The integral gritted anti-slip top surface provides longlasting slip resistant qualities. The material has excellent corrosion resistance, a factor which makes it a logical and cost-effective alternative to conventional steel materials.
The use of Fibreglass Grating eliminates maintenance costs, since painting is not required. Grating materials weigh about one quarter of steel
grating, and two men can easily handle and fit the panels without the need for any equipment other than hand tools.
In this case the 135 metre wash bay platform was installed by a four man team in just two days, with minimum disruption, which will provide a low-maintenance safe surface for many years to come.
