Euroclass A1 Fire Rating for Hodgson & Hodgson Ceiling Tiles

    2 Oct 2007

Acoustic specialist Hodgson & Hodgson Group has achieved a Euroclass A1 fire rating for its Thermos® acoustic ceiling tile pads. The rating, part of a new common system of fire testing across the European Union, is the highest product standard for non-combustibility.

Thermos® acoustic ceiling tile pads are designed to be an integral component of perforated metal suspended ceiling grid systems. They incorporate thermal insulation, acoustic absorption and fire ratings to enable clients to meet Building Regulations, as well as their own specific requirements. In a typical six metres square suspended ceiling, they can provide room to room sound insulation of 34dB. The A1 rating that Hodgson & Hodgson has just been awarded is for its Type E ceiling tile pad at 25mm thick x 45kg/m³ density.

Prior to the introduction of the Euroclass rating system, each country in the EU had its own fire tests in support of its national building regulations. A manufacturer wanting to sell construction products in the EU would have had to undertake more than 30 different tests for Reaction to Fire in order to do so. Because of the difficulty of comparing the data from these many different tests, a common system of fire testing for construction products has been implemented across EU member states. Tests in one country are now valid across the European Community as a whole.

“The A1 standard is the highest European fire safety classification that can be granted to a product,” says Glynne Balshaw-Jones of Hodgson & Hodgson. “The test criteria are stringent and the products really have to perform. Achieving the rating means our clients can now see at a glance the high safety levels of our Thermos® ceiling tiles, an important factor when designing rooms and carrying out hazard and risk evaluation.”

Thermos® acoustic ceiling tile pads are available in a range of standard sizes and custom-made pads can be produced to fit any non-standard system. Different combinations of thickness and density can also be specified. Thermos® ceiling tile pads are used extensively in all types of industrial, commercial and retail developments, as well as in the ticket halls of bus, rail and air terminals.

Hodgson & Hodgson produces a wide range of acoustic products for walls, ceilings and floors, along with acoustic curtains and bespoke products for specialist applications. The company offers a total design, manufacture and installation service throughout the UK. Its highly qualified and experienced engineers can discuss and advise on all aspects of building design and installation.
