Anti Ligature Designs For Contour Casings | 22 Oct 2007 |
Contour Casings has increased its ranges of Low Surface Temperature radiators and radiator guards with anti-ligature variants of the popular Classic and Clean-Line designs.
Although radiator guards and LST radiators have long been used in mental health premises, the grilles and exposed radiator valves have been identified as potential ligature points.
Contour Casings new designs overcome this problem by adding secondary grilles, with a twisted weave behind the main grille to prevent a ligature, such as a cord, rope, wire or shoe lace being inserted.
To remove the risk of the TRV being used as a ligature point, one option is to position it internally, but this leads to incorrect readings to the TRV inside the casing and stops the user having any control over the room temperature.
To solve this, Contour has developed an anti-ligature shroud which fits on the exterior of the casing, exposing the end of the TRV. The shroud is conical, preventing anything being tightened around it. To aid temperature control, the shroud also has a viewing window for setting selection.
The Anti-Ligature designs have already been specified and used on a number of projects, including high security prisons, mental health units and TUKE wards.
