Oaklands School for children with special needs, opened at the start of the year, is the most advanced and expensive facility to be constructed in Edinburgh. Costing over £6 million pounds the school is dedicated to enabling the children to lead a normal adult life and provide them with the opportunities to learn in spite of their disabilities.
The school has become a blueprint for advanced teaching methods for children with specialist needs and has become the focus of attention for local authorities throughout Scotland.
Prominent amongst a host of innovative and dedicated specialist facilities that cover social and educational needs is the new hydrotherapy pool.
The pool is designed with features that engage and expand the experience of being in water using movement, bubbles, heat, light and colour. This relaxes the children preparing them for the rigors of speech and language therapy.
The pool, formed in stainless steel, is surrounded with varying shades of blue coloured floor and wall ceramic tiling that reflects therapeutically on the surface of the water.
