Jewers Doors supplies 350 sets of doors for Colchester Garrison

    14 May 2008

As part of the multi-million pound refurbishment of the British Army’s Colchester Garrison in Essex, Bedfordshire-based Jewers Doors has recently completed the manufacture and installation of 350 sets of Swift and Osprey horizontal sliding folding doors from its market-leading Phoenix range.

Swift and Osprey doors were specified ahead of other vertical door types for their robust construction, low maintenance components, ease of operation, energy-saving construction and competitive price.

A total of 350 sets of doors were required for garages, workshops and stores buildings, which were delivered in two phases during 2005 and 2007.

The second phase of this PFI (Private Finance Initiative) project will be handed over to the Army during April 2008.

Jewers Doors is a privately owned company based in Bedfordshire which designs and manufactures industrial doors, aircraft hangar doors and doors for special purposes.

For the Colchester Garrison, 350 sets of Swift and Osprey doors were supplied each 4.3m high but of varying widths. The Phoenix Swift is a side-hung, bi-folding door for openings up to 4.5m wide, which can either be easily manually opened and closed, or alternatively power operated to open in 7 seconds. These doors are ideal for applications where speed of exit is critical.

Phoenix Osprey are top-hung, multi-leaf folding doors, generally for openings from 4.5m to 20m wide. These complemented the Swift doors perfectly across all door opening widths, and for opening heights of up to 6.0 m.

All Phoenix doors are fully insulated and weather-sealed and are specified for their excellent energy saving properties. Typically a 4.5m x 4.5m Swift door has a U-Value of 1.01kW/m2°C. and inherently provide 25dba acoustic sound reduction through the door system.

On completion of the project, Phoenix director, Mark Jewers, said: "At £1.2 million, this is the largest door contract undertaken by the Phoenix team. We were required to manufacture and supply a number of doors in each of two phases and did so on time in each case."

Phoenix Swift and Osprey doors are a popular, versatile choice for many applications, including fire stations, ambulance stations and small aircraft and helicopter hangars. They are available in a wide range of sizes and can be manually or power operated.
