Polypipe WMS Launches Storm-X4 Filtration Unit | 21 Apr 2008 | Polypipe Civils dedicated Water Management Solutions team has announced the launch of its Storm-X4 filtration unit. Utilising the latest four-stage upward filtration technology, Storm-X4 dramatically reduces surface water run-off contamination from road and roof areas to improve the quality of water discharged to the natural watercourse and increase biodiversity.
Storm-X4 has been designed to comply with the Water Framework Directive (WFD) which encourages developers, contractors and water companies to consider both the control and quality of surface water run-off.
Contaminated water entering the inlet is forced into a radial flow where a hydrodynamic separator removes any heavy sediment. The water is then forced up through a filter set where any chemicals are separated from the run-off and locked up within the filter, before finally passing through an oil retention unit which skims any remaining oil and pollutants before allowing the clean water to discharge to the watercourse, rainwater harvesting device, attenuation or soakaway unit.
Storm-X4 guarantees a low maintenance solution to the issue of poor quality surface water entering the watercourse. Polypipe WMS can deliver the Storm-X4 units within a prefabricated structured-wall plastic chamber, ensuring quicker and easier installation and safer handling.
Dr. Jason Shingleton, Marketing and Development Director for Polypipe WMS comments:
This is an exciting development for Polypipe WMS and is something weve been gearing up to over the last 12 months. Forthcoming legislation, such as the WFD, will continue to drive how contractors and developers deal with the issue of source control and water quality on-site and were confident that Storm-X4 provides the most appropriate and environmentally aware solution. We believe there is a long way to go before we reach standards in the UK that are already commonplace across Europe, but we are hopeful that Storm-X4 will provide the first step in improving the quality of surface water run-off.
