Design


Berry Systems designs are in accordance with relevant British Standards. The main standards are:

  • BS6399 Part 1 1996 - Loading for buildings. Code of practice for dead and imposed loads.

  • BS6180 1999 Barriers in and about buildings. Code of practice.
 

The company also supports and promotes the recent recommendations of the Institutions of Civil Engineers and Structural Engineers and Partners in Innovation. These are contained in:

  • Design recommendations for multi-storey and under ground car parks, 3rd edition - Institution of Structural Engineers, June 2002.

  • Enhancing the whole life structural performance of multistorey car parks. - Partners in Innovation research project published by the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister, September 2002.

  • Recommendations for the inspection, maintenance and management of car park structures - Institution of Civil Engineers, December 2002.

The main aspects of these recommendations relate to:

  • An increase in vehicle impact height to 445mm.

  • The use of double force barriers at aisle ends, opposite down ramps or approaches in excess of 20m.

  • The provision of anti-climb features or pedestrian barriers near parapets or wherever adjacent height levels differ by more than 600mm.

Products have been developed in accordance with these latest recommendations. Full CAD design facilities and computer modelling allow complex finite element analysis where applications require unique solutions.
