Mapei (UK) products have been specified for the £553m, state of the art Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The hospital will centralise local acute facilities on a site of 100,000m2+, and is due to open progressively from June 2010. Consort Healthcare (Birmingham) won the contract alongside Building Design Partnership, with the construction being undertaken by Birmingham New Hospitals Joint-Venture (BNHJV), comprised of Balfour Beatty Construction and Haden Young. Appointed flooring contractors Tyndale Flooring Ltd prepared all substrates and installed floor coverings. A system of eco-friendly Mapei products was specified, consisting of Mapeproof ESM surface membrane, Eco Prim T primer, Latexplan Trade self-levelling compound and Ultrabond ECO VS90 adhesive, which was used for most of the vinyl installation.
